Welcome to the new website for Kesshin Kai, formerly known as Lakeland Ju-Jitsu Academy.
The name change coincides with the 15 year anniversary of the founding of the club.
To celebrate this year, Sensei Smith (5th Dan Ju-Jitsu & 2nd Dan Sport Nunchaku) & Josh Weetman (1st Dan Ju-Jitsu), are opening a new club in Penrith at Castletown Community Centre on Mon 9th Jan. To celerbrate our 15 anniversary during January all Ju-Jitsu & Sport Nunchaku Classes for all ages are FREE!

The Ju-Jitsu club was officially set up in October 1997 for the students of Charlotte Mason College in Ambleside.
The following September, I decided to launch the Ju-Jitsu club as Lakeland Ju-Jitsu Club to members of the public. Much to my surprise fifteen juniors and eight seniors enrolled.
Soon after I opened a club in Kendal and the junior’s sessions slowly grew there too.
Since 1997 all the clubs have continued to increase and there are now over 100 members ranging from five years old to adult. The clubs are held at Windermere (DOJO), Ambleside, Kendal, and Carlisle.

Sensei Gain's SILVER Medal in European Competition - Holland, October 2011

Sensei Richard Smith, who is the founder of Lakeland Ju-Jitsu Academy and Sport Nunchaku UK/Nunchaku International Vice President , has just brought home a Silver medal for Great Britain after competing in the European Open Nunchaku Championships in Holland, with 120 being involved this year.
Sensei Smith(5th Dan Ju-Jitsu, 2nd Dan Nunchaku) competed in ten fights in total, and won 9 fights with the only fight he lost giving the judges much to debate about.
During the awards presentation, in addition to his silver medal, Sensei Smith also received a trophy in recognition of his Style and Spirit, a great accolade which was unanimously awarded by all 9 judges on the judging panel. Darryl Chapman accompanied Sensei Smith to Holland, and also competed in the Championships coming a very respectable 7th. The achievement highlights the skill involved in Nunchaku, and the growing popularity of the sport in this country.
